Story Synopsis
Hina cannot escape herself – her younger self full of insecurities, self-doubt, feelings of shame and worthlessness. Now a young working professional, she is free of the expectations that weighed on her as a child. There is no mother to pester her, no classmates to make fun of her, no need to look a certain way to fit in. So why can’t she ever seem to feel good enough?
Following the celebration of her 27th birthday with her loving boyfriend of three years and his affluent friends, Hina develops a profound fear that she has fallen behind in life. Her boyfriend, Kei, and just about everyone else her age seems so accomplished, while she complacently repeats the same unfulfilling nine-to-five as an accounting clerk day after day.
In this story, we follow Hina as she strives for career progression in hopes of finally quieting the feelings of shame and worthlessness that have plagued her since childhood. In her pursuit, she resists the persevering call to pursue her artistic passion and neglects spending time with close ones for fear of being derailed. Candid reflections on her middle school days illuminate the troubled childhood and insecure self that she’s tried so hard to bury.
Will Hina finally overcome her feelings of inadequacy or risk alienating those who care in her pursuit of success?
